MANAGING DERAILMENT RISK
The consequences of climate change could disrupt our ability to tackle its causes, diverting us from a viable path to stabilising the Earth system. We are mapping these ‘derailment risks’ and exploring how to mitigate them.
non-linear climate risk assesment
We are developing climate risk assessment methods for non-linear threats and systemic risks, with application in decision-making in a variety of sectors. We are focusing on climate tipping points.
cohort 2040
Younger generations will reach positions of senior leadership in a 1.5°C+ world. Yet there is a scarcity of training and support to deal with the huge challenges this will bring. The Cohort 2040 programme aims to provide that support.
Our Projects
Our path-breaking projects produce insights and provide tools for navigating non-linear climate risks and the other dynamics of the escalating climate context, and help socialise an understanding of this new reality. We work with leading organisations across academic, policy research, and climate action.
SECURITY POLICYMAKING
The climate crisis poses a profound threat to human and ecological security. We are developing a policy agenda for improving assessment and management of these threats to inform national and international security planning.
CLIMATE POLICY CREATIVE FELLOWSHIP
This Fellowship equips storytellers to help policymakers make better decisions about climate change and navigate derailment risks. The Fellowship is run by the UCL Climate Action Unit and Fast Familiar. Find out more about the project.
RESILIENCE GAMES
We apply our risk assessment insights in structured workshop exercises that support decision-makers to explore non-linear risks and identify capabilities for responding. We call these ‘resilience games’.
