Helping you nAVIGATe THE NEXT CHAPTER OF CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate action is accelerating. Yet at the same time, climate change is evolving in surprising ways. Its consequences are amplifying other problems, like inflation and geopolitical tensions. How can we navigate this complex reality?

Welcome to the Strategic Climate Risks Initiative

We are a think and do tank that builds tools and capabilities to navigate the new climate reality.

We produce analysis on complex climate risks to inform decision-making, using methods that capture non-linear risks. We use this analysis to provide training and tools to build capabilities for accelerating climate action through an increasingly unstable future. Our work is useful for governments, businesses, and civil society.

We are responding to a widespread under-estimation of climate risk and its implications for climate action. As the consequences of climate change escalate, they will present complex threats and opportunities for rapid climate action. There is an urgent need to develop capabilities to manage this situation so that climate action is not derailed by spiralling consequences. SCRI helps do this.

We are a dedicated staff team and a network of partners across academia, policy research, and climate action. We are currently hosted by the Institute for Public Policy Research and have been incubated in collaboration with the Chatham House Sustainability Accelerator. We are partnered with other leading organisations in research and practice.

Insights and tools

Our path-breaking projects produce insights and provide tools for navigating non-linear climate risks. Our current focus areas include risk-assessing tipping points and playing ‘resilience games’ to identify capabilities for managing these risks, storytelling for 1.5C overshoot, and an agenda for improving government security capabilities.
